Stock House Plans

Stock home plans are pre-developed residential designs of architects and designers that meet the desires of a generally populated group.  While some people know the exact specifications of their new home and thus the need to have custom plans drawn, others seek stock home plans for various beneficial reasons.

Whether a construction professional or a first-time home builder, everyone knows that time and money are the highest priorities.  When purchasing stock home plans you can typically save costs estimated up to one-tenth the price of custom home plans.  Custom house plans are drawn from scratch and typically start with the floor plan and exterior elevations.  Once the floor plan is established, structural plans must be drawn, electrical plans must be drawn, plumbing plans must be drawn, and so on.  By the time all plans are drawn and finalized, taking into account the revision process that occurs between the designer and the client, valuable construction time and money may be lost.  With stock home plans, the designs are already fully complete and upon making your selection and purchase, are usually in your hands within a few days.

Another benefit of stock home plans is the availability of viewing some of the most popular and most requested features of homeowners across the country.  When professionals design these plans, they take into account the many items that are on most family’s “wish lists” for what they’d have in their dream home.  Many of these desired features are drawn into stock home plans to make it easier for clients to find the mold that best fits their lifestyle.

Others benefit from stock home plans by using the many varieties of selections as a way to learn what their likes, dislikes, needs and desires in a home are.  While we spoke earlier of the person who knows exactly what they want in a home, the majorities know more about what their minimum requirements are.  It is very easy to know how many bedrooms and bathrooms you may need, but how many people really know where they’d like to have the family room in relation to the master bedroom?  Do you entertain often and need an open concept plan?  Do you desire your bedroom to be close to your children’s rooms?  All of these questions start to surface when you can actually view the layout of a home.  Before too long, most find that they knew what they wanted all along – they just didn’t realize it until the perfect plan presented itself!

There are those who may be uneducated about stock home plans and state that they are “cookie-cutter molds” that can be found on every other street corner.  One of the greatest benefits of stock home plans is the option of customization.  You may find the perfect plan for you right off the bat, but you may also find a plan that would be perfect if it only had…and then you fill in the blank.  Just because you are purchasing stock home plans doesn’t mean that you can’t make it your own design.  There are ways of customizing your stock home plan – some of the changes may be minute enough to make revisions in the field (redlining) and some changes may need to be revised by the designer before plans are sent to you.  The end result is this – you will be able to have the exact dream home you and your family have always desired.
