Your choice to invest in a custom home plan represents one of the biggest decisions of your life and may very well be the most sizeable investment you ever make. At Preston Wood & Associates we have over thirty years of experience guiding our clients through the design process and believe that the experience of designing someone’s home can be a very rewarding experience if there is trust established between the Client and the Designer. With the appropriate guidance from us and the gathering of important information about your lot from you, the design process can begin smoothly and continue on throughout the development of your home. The initial information that we ask from you is important because it ensures both our designers and you have a shared vision for your completed home and also so that your home will have all the advantages of a custom home plan be, structurally sound within your budget.
The custom home design process is a five phase process that will take 4-18 months of project team-client interactions meetings to complete.
Phase l – Client Interviewing & Programming
Phase ll – Schematic Design
Phase lll – Design Development
Phase IV – Construction Documents
Phase V – Final Review
Phase one begins with a free consultation. We encourage you to bring a scrapbook of ideas. This would include pictures and examples of ideas that represent the various elements you wish to have incorporated in to your home. It should be known that, the more information we have in the beginning the sooner we can set the timeline for your project. At this initial meeting we will also ask that you bring all the legal documents pertaining to your specific lot. This is imperative for the reason just mentioned, we don’t want to waste any time that could be spent on the physical design of your home, and by bringing these documents to this first meeting it will help immensely.
These documents include the Lot Survey, the Topographical Survey, the Elevation Certificate, the Deed Restrictions, the Title Policy Section B and the Soil Report. You will also need to bring the Design Questionnaire, which is available for download on our website.
Also, when you arrive for your consultation, be prepared to talk budget. Even the wealthiest of clients have a limit and determining your personal limit can prevent unwarranted stress later in the design process. Be assured our office is accustom to working within a range of budgetary restraints.
Once we have completed the first meeting and if we have gained a sufficiently clear picture of your expectations including all documents listed previously, we can provide you with a quote for services to be rendered regarding your custom home within 72 hours.
In some instances a second meeting will be required or requested. This meeting is also free of charge and should provide our office with all required documentation to accurately access the individual needs of your custom home. Similarly to the previous situation, a quote will be provided to you within 72 hours once all your documents have been reviewed. |
